Fairy Dust, Pt. 5

“Adelina, I think I hear someone!” Exclaimed Aileen several minutes later. They both hopped up and peered anxiously through the window. Sure enough, down the passage hurried a young girl accompanied with the courier. And in her hand was a ring of keys.
“Hello? Are you the two girls that got locked up?” Asked the girl once she reached the door.
“Yes, yes it’s us! Please let us out!” Called Adelina. Surprisingly, the girl seemed to hear her, and unlocked the door. Aileen burst out and smothered her in hugs.
“Thank you thank you thank you thank you THANK YOU!!” She exclaimed over and over again. Rather embarrassed, the girl managed to squirm free.
“How could you hear us?” Asked Adelina once Aileen had quieted down.
“All the prison cell silence spells don’t begin till a few feet away from the door.” She replied. “Otherwise, how would we know if people are in them or not? Anyways, my name is Faylinn, how do you do, and how did you come to be locked up in there?”
“Faylinn?” Gasped Aileen. “Then you’re the king’s daughter!”
“Well, yes.” Admitted Faylinn. “And who are you?”
“The information we bring is much more important than our names…would you please show us to your father?” Asked Adelina. Faylinn nodded and together they hurried out of the passage. As they walked, Aileen gave Faylinn a brief summary of what was going on, and the urgency of the situation. Once Faylinn heard the bad news, she urged the sisters on even faster. Adelina noticed that the courier’s glow was much fainter, and guessed its life was almost over. Just as they approached the throne room, the courier glittered and disappeared into a pile of dust on the floor. With no time to clean up, Faylinn rushed them into the room, and into the presence of the King!
The King was sitting on a large lavish throne at the opposite end of the room. He was in the process of dictating a packing list, but stopped once the girls entered.
“Hello Fay, who do you have here?” He asked, frowning slightly at the sisters. Adelina blushed, both her and Aileen’s simple dresses were smudged and torn and their dainty shoes were dreadfully scuffed.
“I don’t really have much time today,” He continued, “so why don’t you go play somewhere else?” The King motioned to one of his guards to usher the girls out.
“But father, we have something very important to tell you!” protested Faylinn.
“Yes of course you do, but right now I am very busy preparing for my trip. It is getting late, so why don’t you tell me in the morning?” He yawned and motioned to a large ornate clock on the wall. Adelina gasped in surprise, it was ten o’clock at night! They had been trapped in the prison longer than she thought. Her attention soon turned however to the large guard coming towards them.
“Father please, we need to talk to you right now!” Insisted Faylinn as the guard grabbed her hand and began leading them out. Adelina wanted to help, but she knew that if she or Aileen spoke back to the King, it could bring no good.
“Good night Fay! I will be sure to see you in the morning before your mother and I leave.” The king turned his attention back to the packing list, and the doors closed.
“Why oh why doesn’t father ever listen to me?” Moaned Faylinn. The three girls stood in Faylinn’s bedroom, wondering what they should do next.
“Maybe your mother would listen?” Suggested Aileen.
“She wouldn’t. She thinks I am too young and silly to believe anything I say. And she sure wouldn’t pay any attention to you two either.”
“Couldn’t we tell one of the guards?” Proposed Adelina. “Surely the King- I mean your dad would listen to an official report from a guard.”
“Well, that might work…” Considered Faylinn.
“But Adelina, we don’t know which guards are planning the treason, and which ones aren’t! Objected Aileen. “For all we know, there are hundreds of them plotting against your parents backs right here in the palace!” A gloom fell over the group. At last Faylinn spoke.
“I know one person Father would listen to.” She said quietly.
“Who!?!” Asked Adelina and Aileen.
“My brother. Father thinks the world of him, and would listen to anything he says.”
“Then let’s go and find him!” Exclaimed Aileen. They rushed out of Faylinn’s room and soon where knocking on his door.

What will happen to the three girls?

Will Faylinn's brother agree to help?

Will they succeed in warning the king?

Tune in next time to find out!
